Capacitor Trip DevicesBecker SMC is well known for the quality of its products including the capacitor trip devices that have made us famous. We have capacitor trip relays which can be fitted into a variety of uses for our customers. In this article, we will explain more on the use of our Capacitor trip devices. By detailing the different types of capacitor trip devices that we offer, prospective customers can decide which product will best fit their needs.

Becker SMC ships all its capacitor trip units with the best in inspection and in housing to ensure a tamper-proof delivery. We want to offer our customers products that are verified for their quality and  performance.

Designing for safety is important to Becker SMC.

A capacitor trip unit provides the power required to initiate the tripping action of a circuit breaker controlled by discrete relays following the loss of AC control voltage. The units are designed with an internal pre charge resistor that enables fast tripping which saves significant energy up to 70% by  reducing inrush current.

Becker SMC offers a variety of capacitor trip units from which you can choose from. These include:

CTD D-4005-1A

The capacitor trip relay, which is rated for 120 VAC input, is used with a shunt trip. It can be utilized with undervoltage and requires a shunt trip or a jumper between terminals 2 and 6. The CR relay will energize when the capacitor is fully charged, and the indicating light will come on.

CTD D-4005-1

The 120 VAC trip relay is suited for use with a shunt. It works in conjunction with a shunt trip. When the capacitor is fully charged, the CR relay will become energized, and the indicator light will turn on.

CTD D-4005-2A

The capacitor trip relay is designed for a voltage of 240 VAC. A shunt trip is required. It can be used with undervoltage, but it must have a shunt trip or a jumper between terminals 2 and 6 in addition to being used with undervoltage. The CR relay will energize when the capacitor is fully charged, and the indicating light will come on tripping the system off.

CTD D-4005-4

The capacitor trip relay is intended for use with 120 VAC. It may be used in conjunction with undervoltage or shunt trips. The CR relay will come on when the capacitor is fully charged, and the indication light will come on. This is a voltage doubler circuit.

CTD D-4005-4M

The D-4005-4M capacitor trip relay is intended for use with a shunt trip and operates on 120VAC. It also includes a safety power-up circuit that delivers current to the shunting solenoid before the capacitor is fully charged. When the capacitor is completely charged, the safety power-up circuit will be bypassed.

CTD D-4005-4M1

The D-4005-4M1 shunt trip relay is used with a shunt. When the capacitor is completely charged, the indicating light will come on. This is a voltage doubler circuit.

CTD D-4005-1TC

The D4005-1TC capacitor trip relay is intended for use with 120VAC. It is used with a shunt trip and/or undervoltage, and it has a safety power-up circuit that supplies power to the shunt trip solenoid before the capacitor is completely charged. When the capacitor is fully charged, the safety trip is activated.

CTD D-4005-5

The capacitor trip relay is rated for use with 120 VAC. It may be used to trip undervoltage or shunt. When the capacitor is fully charged, the CR relay activates, and the indication light turns on.

CTD D-4005-TC

The D4005-TC capacitor trip relay, which is for 120VAC, can be used with UV and shunt trips. It also has a safety power-up circuit that provides power to the shunt trip solenoid before the capacitor is fully charged. When the capacitor is completely charged, the safety power-up circuit will bypass the power.
